Why whippets?
Whippets – part of the sighthound group and often called the “small English greyhound,” is a dog of elegance, speed, and strength. Despite their athletic nature, whippets are incredibly gentle, making them perfect companions.
Whippets are incredibly adaptable and refined dogs, making them perfect partners for travel and active pursuits. They quickly adjust to new environments, whether it’s a cozy home or a dynamic sports setting. With their gentle, affectionate, and calm nature. Whippets are ideal for those who appreciate peace and quiet. They rarely bark and only use their voice when truly necessary.
Their greatest joy is simply being near their owner. Known for their cleanliness and neatness, whippets are easy to care for and maintain. While they don’t require constant physical exercise, a quick 10–15 minutes of sprinting or playful running with other dogs is required. It’s essential to give them the freedom to run – it’s in their nature!
A Character Shaped by History.
Though a working dog, the whippet was never bred to hunt in packs like other hunting breeds. These elegant dogs were often residents of grand estates and manors, not suited for harsh outdoor conditions or the role of guard dogs. Historically, whippets would hunt rabbits and entertain their owners in dog races, much like other hunting breeds. However, they always lived closely with their owners under the same roof, enjoying meals from the family table, resting by the fireplace, or lounging on soft sofas and armchairs.
Whippet kennel – ‘ELĖJOS’ – is a member of the International Canine Federation (FCI) and its member, the Lithuanian Kennel Club (LKD). All the dogs from the kennel participate in national and international dog shows in Lithuania and abroad.
Although I have experienced various, even painful, moments with dogs, I have never stopped admiring and loving them.
I have lived with dogs almost my entire life. My love for dogs and horses has shaped me as a person from a young age and taught me many life lessons. Although I have experienced various, even painful, moments with dogs, I have never stopped admiring and loving them. For me, dogs are the best motivators and inspirations. They fill my days with cozy calmness and motivate me to choose an active lifestyle outdoors. I can no longer remember or even imagine a walk without a dog!
