Whippet
Whippet
The Whippet, also known as the small English Greyhound, is an elegant and fast dog breed that originated in England.
These dogs stand out for their grace, speed, and friendly temperament. In Lithuania, Whippets are becoming increasingly popular due to their unique qualities and ability to be both wonderful family companions and active partners. The Whippet has a relatively short but fascinating history that began in the 19th century. The breed was developed in England with the goal of creating a smaller and faster type of sighthound, perfectly suited for chasing hares and participating in racing competitions.
Appearance and Characteristics
They are medium-sized dogs, standing 45–56 cm (18–22 inches) tall and weighing between 11 and 20 kg (24–44 lbs). Whippets have a slim, aerodynamic build with long leg muscles and a deep chest that allows for efficient breathing during high-speed runs. Their coat is short and smooth, and comes in a wide variety of colors — including black, white, brown, blue, brindle, and parti-color combinations. Whippets also have a long, narrow head that gives them their distinctive, graceful appearance.
